Miss World 2014 (3rd Update): The Panel of Judges and the “Type” of winner to expect…

Now this is interesting…

We are hours away from meeting Miss World 2014. 122 beautiful delegates are in London right now and one of them will join the elite group of 63 Miss World titleholders. She will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience of touring the world and being the face of Miss World Organization and its charitable activities.

Just yesterday, the organization (through its website) released the names of the jurors who will choose the lucky (and deserving) lady. The names included a very brief profile giving us an idea on what they do. This gives me a glimpse of their lives and how they look at life and the world. So let me analyze this choice of judges and let us determine just what “type” of winner should we expect tomorrow 🙂

Here are the judges:

A past president of Variety International and former Red Cross worker during the Vietnam War, she has been involved with Miss World for over 20 years, serving as a Beauty with a Purpose judge for the past 5. Married to Stan Reynolds (also past Variety International President) she is the mother of 5 children and 8 grandchildren.

Marsha-Rae Ratcliff

“She is a Variety International Board Member who first created the charity’s International Gold Pin Heart Campaign. For the past seven years, Variety has launched a partnership with the motion picture industry to design and market the Gold Heart pins around Hollywood movie properties. This partnership between Variety and the motion picture industry has raised US$95 million dollars worldwide.”

Tony Hatch

“He is a legendary English composer for musical theatre and television. He is also a noted songwriter, pianist, arranger and producer and has written and produced songs and scores for some of the UK’s most celebrated musical acts and films.”

Zhang Zilin

“She was Miss World 2007 and the first representative of China and of East Asian descent to be crowned Miss World. Since being crowned Miss World, she has embarked on a lucrative acting and modeling career, which has included becoming the face of L’Oréal, Rado & Swarovsky. Zhang is now one of the most recognizable celebrity faces in Asia and the global fashion industry.”

Agbani Darego
(Miss World 2001)

Shortly after her reign as Miss World 2001, Agbani became one of the most in demand faces in the fashion industry, having modeled for the likes of Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Ralph Lauren. She recently launched her own fashion line.”

Kaiane Aldorino

“She was Miss World 2009 and the first ever Miss World from Gibraltar. After her reign, Kaiane continued to be deeply involved in her philanthropic and humanitarian work leading to her being awarded with the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour by a unanimous vote in the Gibraltar Parliament. She is currently the deputy Mayor of Gibraltar, a role she ascended to earlier this year.”

Azra Akin
(Miss World 2002)

“She was Miss World 2002 and the first Turkish woman to be crowned Miss World. After her reign, Azra embarked on a successful acting career and is now one of the most sought-after actresses and television personalities in her native Turkey. Currently she is the voice of the UN Population Fund in Turkey.”

With this 9 as judges, what “type” of winner should we expect?

I don’t know with you, but all I am getting with these 9 is the heavy emphasis on charitable activities and philanthropy. This screams Beauty with a Purpose to me. I am standing with what I wrote in the BWAP post that 1 or 2 of the final Top 3 will be from the BWAP finalists. This is just in line with what I observed as the over-all theme of the pageant this year – Beauty with a Purpose and its charitable activities.

As expected, we also have a group of previous Miss World titleholders as judges. This time, we have four of the staple judges of the pageant 🙂 This will be the 5th time that Zhang Zilin will be judging from the time that she was crowned 7 years ago. This I believe will ensure that the lucky lady will perfectly fit the Miss World prototype – lady that possesses natural beauty and is full of class.

So, who will be this lucky lady?

We will know tomorrow!
